Meet The Team

Dr. Greg Hunter
Principal General Practitioner
Dr Greg Hunter is the founder of Riverside General Practice, bringing over four decades of experience in General Practice. After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1977, he trained at Southport Hospital and began his career in Wauchope, NSW before settling in Coolangatta in 1980. Dr Hunter’s extensive experience spans from pre-conception care to palliative care, and includes hospital work in obstetrics, emergency, surgical assisting and sports medicine. He has also been a key part of the MotoGP medical team since 1989. Passionate about comprehensive, respectful care, Dr Hunter guides patients through every stage of their health journey with clinical insight and compassion.

Dr. David Engel
General Practitioner
Dr David Engel graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1990 and has a diverse medical background, including five years working in emergency medicine in the UK. Since returning to Australia in 1995, he has combined emergency and general practice, with particular interests in paediatrics, palliative care, antenatal and family medicine, and acute conditions. He holds a Diploma of Child Health and has taught medical students for nearly 20 years. Dr Engel also contributes as an events doctor with Surf Life Saving Australia. Outside work, he enjoys coastal hikes and spending time with his family and beloved dog.

Dr Rachael Eddywing
General Practitioner
Dr Rachael Eddywing is a compassionate GP with over 20 years of experience, offering patient-centred care to individuals and families. A local graduate of the University of Sydney, she has special interests in adolescent and sexual health, women’s health (including IUDs and menopause), and neurodivergent care. She also provides medical termination services and is passionate about chronic disease prevention and low-carbohydrate nutrition. Dr Eddywing is known for her empathetic, evidence-based approach and inclusive care.

Dr. Hilda Steele
General Practitioner
Originally from Canada, Dr Hilda Steele has proudly called Australia home for nearly 20 years. She trained in Melbourne and has worked locally since 2014, with hospital experience at Tweed Valley and Murwillumbah. Dr Steele provides GP shared maternity care in collaboration with the practice midwife and has completed alignment programs with both Gold Coast University and Tweed Valley hospitals. She is trained in obstetric ultrasound and offers in-room fetal scans. In addition to maternity care, she has advanced training in skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, providing comprehensive skin checks and minor procedures. When not in the clinic, she enjoys beach time with her two daughters and playing league tag and oztag.

Dr. Emma Carroll
General Practitioner
Dr Emma Carroll graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2013 and has been a valued GP in the local area for over 7 years. Originally from the far south coast of NSW, she completed her hospital training in Newcastle, including a paediatric specialty year. She holds a Diploma in Child Health from Westmead Children's Hospital and has strong interests in paediatrics and women’s health. Emma is passionate about delivering personalised, holistic care to individuals and families. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, Pilates, the beach and relaxing in her garden.
